Cattle Guard Info

Cattle Guard Info –  Cattle Guards, also known as stock gaps and cattle grids, have been used throughout the United States for over 150 years. They are ideal for containing cattle or livestock in an area with a high traffic entrance. Many pasture and ranching entrances have heavy duty gates to keep cows where they need to be. But areas with higher traffic, especially near highways and roads, are better suited for a cattle guard. Here we’ll take a closer look at what cattle guards are and how they’re effective.

Cattle Guard Info

Cattle Guard Info on Use and Effect

As you might expect, these products are used for livestock and wildlife containment. As mentioned previously, high traffic areas cannot have heavily secured gates that must be opened and closed constantly. Additionally not every entrance is worth spending a lot of money on automatic gates. Therefore it’s recommended that folks use cattle guards. They are used by farmers and engineers to prevent crossing by taking advantage of the animals instincts. Scientists believe these animals may have learned they can’t cross cattle guards by individual experiences or the more common observation of other individuals in the heard and their reaction to such barriers. Today we won’t get into the chicken and the egg metaphor but, we will go ahead and mention that regardless of which came first the herd learns quickly.

Cattle Guard Info on Types of Applications

Many people do not know that there are a few different types of cattle grids available. My favorite has to be the use of painted lines on roads that have the same effect on cattle that actual heavy duty pipe guards do. While painted deterrents are interesting, they are cost prohibitive because of the constant repainting needed. Although, it is incredibly interesting that  farmers have used these painted lines for hundreds of years as an alternative to commercial products. Other types include electric guards, cement guards and  of course CBI Pipe’s custom made heavy duty products.

Cattle Guard History

Cattle guards, or cattle grids, have been implemented by humans since before Romans inhabited The British Isles. Later, Americans would use them to protect railroad lines in the mid 1800’s. Subsequently, modern guards seem to have been independently invented in multiple locations through the American Great Plains in the early 20th Century. Benefits offered by Steel Pipe

Steel Pipe – Each type of fencing material has unique advantages. These benefits are what make pipe particularly useful in certain situations and for certain projects. The key to selecting the right material is knowing the scope and requirements of the project.

With that in mind, there are several advantages offered by steel pipe that is unmatched by other industry options. Knowing what these are can help you determine if this pipe is right for your project.

Safe to Work With

Several building materials have to be treated with preservatives, pesticides or glues to work with safely. This is not necessary when using steel pipe. Additionally, other materials are often vulnerable to rotting and pests, but this isn’t an issue with steel. This factor alone makes it a great option for underground applications and livestock fencing.

Corrosion Resistance

Builders can use steel pipe with confidence because they are corrosion resistant. In fact, they can safely use thinner and smaller pipe even in environments that are extremely corrosive or acidic.

Shock Resistant

Compared to other materials available, steel pipe offers the greatest resistance to shock and vibration. This is extremely important in the modern world where traffic puts excessive stress on roadway foundations. Thanks to the superior shock resistance of steel, it can hold up better than other materials when used beneath roads.

High Tensile Strength Steel Pipe

The high Tensile strength of steel piping makes it safe to use in high-pressure situations. Also, this strength means that the pipe can be made thinner, but still be as durable, than other materials. Due to the tensile strength of this material, it has a higher carrying capacity than pipes made of other materials that are the same diameter.

An Environmentally Safe Option

Each year, 70% of all the steel in North America is recycled. This is more than glass, plastic, paper and aluminum combined. Using steel pipe helps to reduce waste now and in the future.

Also, steel production is an environmentally friendly process. Approximately 50% of the entire world’s steel is created in plants that utilize recycled materials and that don’t produce any CO2 emissions.

An Affordable Option

Regardless of the pressure that is present, this form of steel can remain thin; much thinner than other types of pipes and still withstand a beating.

This pipe option is also much more affordable than copper. Thanks to its durability, it reduces the cost of repairs and replacement, as well.

If you need a long lasting product for your next project, then you should consider steel pipe. It offers all of the benefits you’ll need. Don’t hesitate to contact us for any questions or inquiries!

What is Corrosion Resistance?

Corrosion resistance is the resistance that a material offers against any adverse reaction with elements that can cause the material to corrode. Some materials have this property intrinsically, based on the corrosion resistance rate. However, those that are not naturally corrosion resistance can benefit from synthetic methods to achieve this result. Some options that aid with corrosion resistance includes hot dip galvanizing, painting and the combination of these two methods.

Corrosion occurs when a pipe is oxidized. During this process, the material loses electrons. Corrosion resistance is the ability for the material to hold the binding energy of metal and withstand this deterioration and the chemical breakdown that takes place when the surface is exposed to the abrasive environment.

You may wonder, why this is so important? What impact does it have?

Corrosion Resistance and the Oil and Gas Industry

The oil and gas industry is steadily growing. More and more of the production of oil and gas is being sourced offshore. Thanks to improved technology, workers can access deposits at deeper depths beneath the ocean floor than ever before, even in severe environments.

As a result, there is a need for low maintenance and high-reliability piping for this industry. Many corrosive environments exist within the oil and gas industry, which is why corrosion resistant pipe is more important than ever before.

Corrosion Resistance in the Fencing Industry

While the oil and gas industry is highly reliant on corrosion resistant products, the fencing industry is, as well. In fact, many ranchers, homeowners, business owners and others seek out fencing materials that are corrosion resistance. These are viewed as being more durable and longer lasting than materials that are not corrosion resistant. Also, since the material is not affected by oxidation, it looks better, longer. This makes it a smart investment for anyone who is having a fence installed.

Corrosion Resistance

Benefits Offered by These Materials

Corrosion resistant materials are not new to the market. However, if a person doesn’t fully understand the benefits offered by this, they may not see the value it provides. Particular advantages of corrosion resistant metals include:

  • Improvement of the functionality with a longer life cycle for the component in question
  • Lowers maintenance costs because the parts last longer
  • Ability to resist harsh chemicals and extreme temperatures

It doesn’t matter if the product is intrinsically corrosion resistant or if it is added with a coating, these materials are going to last longer than their non-corrosion resistant materials.

Regardless of if a person is working in the oil and gas industry, fencing industry, or another industry altogether, they should explore the many benefits offered by using corrosion resistant products. These products are uniquely designed to withstand the effects of severe or adverse environments where damage would otherwise occur.

The Weldable Saddle Cap Reduces Your Farm Supply Budget

There are several issues fence building commonly faces. Many of these problems cost time and money in Farm Supply. Cutting a perfect saddle is not easy. Folks often wind up backfilling saddle cuts and wasting materials and time. These setbacks reduce efficiency for fence building and repair. Adding to the frustration of welders everywhere.

Luckily, CBI Pipe has developed a revolutionary product called a Weldable Saddle Cap. These saddle caps are specifically designed to make the coping process easy. Here we’ll cover few ways these items save time and money.

Backfilling is needed when the saddle is cut too deep. Once the top rail is laid there is a large gap between the post and rail. This allows water to enter the post and increase the pace of deterioration. Pipe fence is supposed to last forever. Getting water inside the post is a quick way to increase repair bills.

Materials cost is another issue that every fence builder has to consider. Over months, quarters and years of projects these numbers increase significantly. Saving a dime once isn’t necessarily worth it. Saving a hundreds and thousands of dimes a year absolutely is.

Ease of use is critical to many customers using Weldable Saddle Caps. The revolutionary design provides a flush connection for both the post and top rail. It is a great way to make the process easier. Not everyone is a master welder with decades of experience.

Time saving in a Farm Supply budget is also a major factor in a pipe fence project. Using these saddle caps all it takes is a quick straight cut. The insert portion fits perfectly into a range of wall thicknesses of various pipe. The saddles are measured to fit snugly against the rail or post. A quick wed around the parts and its finished.

Overall this product can save people time and money and they look much better compared to hand saddled pipe connections. The wide variety of sizes for different measurements of post and saddle also make these great for custom Farm Supply projects. Make sure to contact us if you have any questions about these Weldable Saddle Caps!!
